ARK: Survival Ascended Server: Hardware Realities in the UE5 Era
With Unreal Engine 5, ASA pushed ARK's appetite for resources up another notch.
UE5 Memory Realities
An ARK: Survival Ascended server needs noticeably more memory than its predecessor, Evolved: even an empty The Island map uses 12-14 GB RAM, and 16-20 GB is normal once players build bases and tame dinos. We don't recommend running an ASA server on machines with less than 16 GB, because a server that falls back to swap will inevitably rubber-band.
Mod and Cluster Setup
Mod support comes through CurseForge, and popular mod packs (S+, stack mods, map mods) increase both disk and RAM requirements. If you plan to set up a cluster (such as Island + Scorched Earth), each map means a separate server process; keeping the shared cluster directory on the same machine is the most stable setup for transfers between maps. On the settings side, finalize your harvest/taming multipliers before the server launches, since changing them later tends to cause community backlash.
NVMe and Backups
NVMe storage is standard on Verunix ASA servers; UE5's shader and save loading times become unbearable on SATA. A redundant save strategy and DDoS protection come with the setup.
